Just back from two days in Mexico City, working with Grupo Bimbo. Did a session with CEO and other top team members, but all subject to non-disclosure agreement. A reminder of just how complex the internal dynamics can be inside large, multinational companies. But a useful stimulus, in that I developed a diagram for plotting progress in the sustainability space which could well have wider applications.

On the second day, Mauricio (Bonilla Padilla) took several of us to Coyoacán, which Hernán Cortés and his conquistadores used as a base during their toppling of the Aztecs. Fascinating, but slightly grim, visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum – what a tough time she had of it, including over 30 operations and several terminations of pregnancies. The day outside seemed to be drizzling in sympathy.

Introduction

I began this blog with an entry reporting on a visit to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod, on 30 September 2003. The blog element of the website has gone through several iterations since, with much of the older material still available.

Like so many things in my life, blog entries blur the boundaries between the personal and the professional. As explained on this site’s Home Page, the website and the blog are part platform for ongoing projects, part autobiography, and part accountability mechanism.

In addition, my blogs have appeared on many sites such as: Chinadialogue, CSRWire, Fast Company, GreenBiz, Guardian Sustainable Business, and the Harvard Business Review.
