Across to Amwell Street, near Exmouth Market (the other place in London I have been shot at, the slug shattering the 38 bus window behind Elaine and I) for a rooftop party with team members from Future-Fit Benchmark, SustainAbility and Volans. Glorious views of the Gherkin and other delights.

Today saw my father, Tim Elkington, celebrated alongside six other Battle of Britain veterans at Clarence House. Not entirely sure how he ever fitted into a Hurricane or Spitfire …

Across to Leonard Street, EC2, with Sam to visit Positive Luxury, where I’m now on the Sustainability Council, and to see co-founder Diana Verde Nieto.

Reminded of how much construction is going on in this part of London by the reverberations through the walls of nearby pile-driving. Also reminded by the sign on the side of the truck seen through a porthole window of the number of deaths and other accidents currently afflicting London cyclists (including, last year, me – again).

Our conversation watched over by a Snowy-like dog that could have come straight out of the East London Adventures of Tintin.

A delightful team away day in Greenwich, at least for those who could make it. We kicked off at The Old Brewery, then went for a wander to the top of Observatory Hill, then back to play what Astrid told us was Viking Chess – but which we were forced to adapt heavily, because we didn’t have the right utensils. So we used bottles of water as the relevant pieces, to the sound of slightly faltering operatic arias from the nearby building – and by the end of the game we were thinking of trademarking the wondrous Bottle Battle. Afterwards, Sam and I boarded a river boat back to Embankment. Wonderful views of the city, but it would be great if they would wash the windows.

Introduction

I began this blog with an entry reporting on a visit to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod, on 30 September 2003. The blog element of the website has gone through several iterations since, with much of the older material still available.

Like so many things in my life, blog entries blur the boundaries between the personal and the professional. As explained on this site’s Home Page, the website and the blog are part platform for ongoing projects, part autobiography, and part accountability mechanism.

In addition, my blogs have appeared on many sites such as: Chinadialogue, CSRWire, Fast Company, GreenBiz, Guardian Sustainable Business, and the Harvard Business Review.
